Piper, Her Bug and My Sanity

You know that feeling when you walk past your favourite chocolate bar in the chocolate isle and you have to leave it behind.  Well, its called separation anxiety and Piper has felt that with me for the last four months.  

It happens if I walk outside to get the mail, if she can't find me in the house and especially at night.  She usually wakes two or three times crying and only settles when she see me right beside her.  She falls asleep in her cot (as long as I am there) but when she realises later in the night that I have gone, she screams.  

This has resulted in her sleeping in our bed or with me sleeping on the sofa with her.  

Two nights ago, I decided to try something different.  I never let them "cry it out" but decided to leave her in her cot and just sit beside her.  It wasn't as peaceful as that last sentence makes it sound and I ended up with only three hours sleep, but last night Piper slept through.  I still didn't get much sleep, as I kept waking to see if she was still sleeping.  I know it is only one night and may not last, but at least it was one night.  It gives me a little hope for the future.

Update (Sunday 7 February):  Piper didn't sleep through the next night.  I guess it was from the exhaustion of only three hours sleep on the previous night that helped her sleep through.  That's okay.  I want her to always feel secure, so I guess we just have to keep trying.  xx
