Sunday 4 January 2015
We had our first family outing for 2015 last Sunday. We went up to Australia Zoo and I think the littles had fun. Ava and Felix had their face painted as a bunny and a cheetah and they just looked adorable. Ava then had two meltdowns as she wanted to go into the souvenir shop and on a $2 ride that you normally find at the shops. I had said no to both, but she was not about to accept that and I ended up having to say a reluctant yes to both in the end as it was becoming extremely unpleasant.
With the $2 ride over and done with and three new pairs of binoculars from the shop hanging around their necks, we set off to find all the different animals. Felix loves anything that looks like a dinosaur, so he quite liked the Rhino Iguana.
We then found the Aldabran Tortoise just before we completely lost Felix. We stopped to sit down for some lunch and one second he was with us and the next, he was completely missing. I stayed quite calm for the first five minutes while Ash and the amazing zoo staff ran around looking for him. I slowly began to panic as it appeared that he was actually nowhere to be found. I had two other Mum's offer to help me, but I couldn't think, I just felt frozen. He was eventually found coming out from behind so unused wooden stairs. He had chased a swamp hen which led him away.
After taking some time to recover, we set off again to find the Tigers and Giraffes. Unfortunately, we didn't have to travel too far until we found trouble again. We were in the bird enclosure (above photo) and Felix was super excited about something and got out of the pram too quickly and landed flat on his forehead and spilt it open. Even though there was a lot of blood and a big bump, thankfully he didn't need stitches. A big cuddle and a shoulder ride from Daddy helped to make it all better.
We then found the Tigers who were fast asleep, but still amazing.
The last time we went to the zoo, there were no Giraffes (and no Felix), so it was pretty exciting to see the Giraffes. It was a long walk around in the sun to see the African exhibit (especially with three tired little ones), but it was worth it.
We then stopped off for an ice-cream before heading home. It was a wonderful, stressful, typical day out with my beautiful family.
